Teaching Project

(This Project was presented by North Carolina School of Math and Science at the Exeter educational technology conference, 1996)

The purpose of the Teaching Project is to show some adult as a parent, grandparent, aunt, or uncle some of interesting things we are doing with the graphing calculator. As a final outcome of the project parents are assigned to solve a problem using the calculator.

I wrote the instruction to my students who became teachers probably at first time at their lives:

"You will help and guide your students in using this technology and will not show off, confuse or frustrate them. The student(adult) will be using calculator throughout the lesson and the teacher will only be guiding the adult on how to use the calculator.

I hope that the adult you are teaching will get to have a little fun with the technology that is now helping in our study of mathematics. This is a serious assignment but at the same time I want it to be fun and learning experience for all involved.

The teacher in this project will be getting a grade for the project. The grade will be determined by:

* the script of the lesson,
* the parent solution with your comments
* the evaluation forms being filled out in paragraph from more than one sentence for each answer,
* the evaluation sheets being signed by both student and teacher.

I hope you find project interesting, informative, and fun."
